Woman reviewing a planner at home before an upcoming special event

A wedding invitation arrives, family photos are scheduled, or a holiday celebration finally makes it onto your calendar. You want to feel comfortable in front of the camera, and you may be considering Botox for the first time. The next question is practical: when should you book?

If you are considering Botox before an event in Calabasas, start the conversation several weeks ahead whenever possible. That is a planning cushion, not a promise that one appointment date works for everyone. Your treatment history, goals, and the areas being considered all matter.

At DermaGlow Lab & Aesthetics by Tatarian MD, the starting point is an individualized assessment. A meaningful deadline belongs in that conversation, but it should not decide whether a treatment is appropriate.

Plan around your goals before choosing a date

Think about what you would like to change and what you want to preserve. Perhaps the lines between your eyebrows bother you in photographs, but maintaining your usual facial expressions matters just as much. Bring both preferences to the consultation.

Botox temporarily reduces activity in targeted muscles associated with expression lines. It does not restore facial volume or address every concern about skin texture and quality. If those are your main priorities, an earlier discussion can prevent booking a treatment that does not match your goal. Our guide to Botox versus dermal fillers explains this distinction.

At DermaGlow, Margarita Lupan, FNP, known as Rita, personally performs injectable treatments. Her approach centers on helping patients look refreshed and balanced while still looking like themselves. She may recommend waiting or a different plan when the requested treatment is not appropriate.

Early changes are different from the full result

Botox is not an instant event-day treatment. The BOTOX Cosmetic manufacturer states that improvement in forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet may begin within one to two days, with full results in 30 days. Individual responses vary. Seeing an early change does not mean that your result has finished developing.

This distinction matters when planning around photographs or travel. An appointment shortly before an event leaves less opportunity to observe your response or speak with your provider about concerns. Your provider should recommend a timeline for your situation instead of relying on a friend’s experience or a universal two-week rule.

DermaGlow offers Botox and Dysport. These are different botulinum toxin products, so confirm which product is being recommended and what to expect from it. Do not assume that information about one automatically describes the other.

Build a simple event planning calendar

Instead of choosing an injection date first, work through these steps:

If the event is only a few days away, tell the team that before booking. Avoid turning a tight calendar into pressure for an unfamiliar treatment or an unrealistic result.

Bring your treatment history and your questions

Useful preparation is more than collecting inspiration photos. Tell your provider about previous injectable treatments, including the product, date, treatment areas, and any unwanted effects. If you have records from another practice, ask what information would be helpful to bring.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends discussing medications, supplements, past cosmetic procedures, and pregnancy or plans for pregnancy before botulinum toxin treatment. Share your medical history openly. Do not stop a prescribed medication to prepare for an appointment unless your prescribing clinician instructs you to do so.

Three useful questions are: What change is realistic for my face? What should I expect before my event? What would make you recommend postponing treatment? These questions keep the conversation focused on your circumstances.

Coordinate facials and other treatments

An event can make it tempting to schedule several aesthetic appointments together. Tell Rita about any planned RF microneedling, EXION treatment, facial, or other procedure so she can assess the sequence and spacing.

There is no single online timetable that covers every combination of treatments, device settings, and patient circumstances. A coordinated plan is more useful than separate bookings made around available calendar slots. Ask the team to explain which appointments can fit your schedule and which should wait.

Understand recovery and important safety information

A short appointment does not mean there can be no visible effects afterward. The AAD lists redness, swelling, soreness, and bruising among possible reactions. Headache and temporary eyelid or brow drooping can also occur. Follow your provider’s aftercare instructions, including guidance about touching the treated area, exercise, and skincare.

Botulinum toxin products also carry warnings about potentially serious effects. Seek immediate medical help for problems breathing, swallowing, or speaking after treatment. Review the Medication Guide with your provider and discuss your individual risks before proceeding.

Start with a consultation in Calabasas
